<p>Kii Mountains is a mountainous region covering most of the Kii Peninsula. They lie south of the Japan Median Tectonic Line  in Wakayama, Nara, and Mie prefectures. The mountains are arranged roughly northeast to southwest.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>During the Heian period, Shugendō flourished in these mountains. In 2004 it became part of a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage site, under the name "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range"</p><br>
<p>In the Northern regions of the mountains, Yoshino and Omine have the oldest sacred traditions where followers of Shugendo, have been practising their faith within the forests since the seventh century. Kumano Sanzan is in the Southern area of the ranges and has three significant Buddhist shrines devoted to nature worship. Around Koyasan, 117 temples represent over one thousand years of worship and are linked by networks of pilgrim routes through the steep peaks and glades of the Kii mountains.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The highest peak is Hakkenzan 1,914.6 m in the Ōmine Mountains. Other peaks in the central group are Mount Shakka(1800m) and Mount Sanjō (1719m). To the East in the Daikō Mountains is Mount Ōdaigahara (1695m). In the South is Mount Daitō 大塔山(1122m). The Obako Mountains separate Nara Prefecture from Wakayama Prefecture.</p><br>
<p>Yoshino-Kumano National Park is located in the Kii Mountains.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>Along with the Shikoku Mountains, the Kii Mountains form the outer arc of the Southwestern Japan Arc. The mountains are mostly domed upthrusts of sedimentary rock from the Cretaceous and Lower Miocene.</p><br>
<p>Nyskie Lake  is a reservoir constructed on the Nysa Kłodzka river in Poland in 1971. Its name comes from the nearby town of Nysa. The dam that was used to create the reservoir is 2 kilometers long, and 20 meters high. The total area of the lake is 2000 hectares, with 124 million cubic meters of water. Before creation of the reservoir, several villages had been resettled. By the lake, a hydroelectric power plant is located.</p><br>
<p>Together with adjacent Otmuchów Lake, both reservoirs make the Otmuchow-Nysa Area of Protected Landscape (Polish: Otmuchowsko-Nyski Obszar Krajobrazu Chronionego), with several species of birds living in the region. The reservoir is located near the main national road number 46, which goes from Gliwice to Kłodzko.</p><br>

<p>Beale Cottage is situated on the corner of Beale and Grey street in Hamilton, New Zealand. Constructed in 1872, it stands as one of Hamiltons oldest surviving homes. It was designed by one of Hamiltons first European settlers, Dr. Bernard Charles Beale and was used as his family residence, surgery and registry office. Its importance derives from its connection with Beale and the beginnings of modern medical practices in Hamilton, thus giving reason for the Hamilton City Council to later declare the cottage as an Historic Reserve in 1994. It is also a Category I listing with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust.</p><br>
<h2>Bernard Charles Beale</h2><br>
<p>Bernard Charles Beale was born in London on 10 September 1830 to Thomas and Sophia Beale. Beale was a student at London Hospital from 1849 to 1852. Emigrating to Nelson, New Zealand in 1861, Beale arrived and settled in Hamilton four years later as fourth regiment of Waikato militia. During this time, militia men were granted land in return for their services and on 3 July 1872, Beale purchased land which is the site where Beale Cottage stands today.</p><br>
<p>Beale was a well-respected and honorable man. His efforts in his profession were noticed by the hundreds he treated throughout his time serving as a practitioner.</p><br>
<h2>Design</h2><br>
<p>Designed by Beale, the cottage reflects a typical colonial cottage of the early settlement period. Since its erection Beale Cottage has stood the test of time and has conquered all environmental conditions. Its fair to say the house is in good condition, with most of its first structural fittings still remaining today. Designed by Beale himself, the home reflects the way of life of an early medical practitioner in his profession and home. The original layout is believed to have been a square plan with four rooms with a central hallway. The bedroom and lounge was located in the front two rooms with the surgery and kitchen located in the back rooms. Beale Cottage, was larger to that of most settlers cottages of that period, which would usually have smaller sized rooms.</p><br>

<p>In 1994 Hamilton City Council declared the site Beale cottage stands on as an Historic Reserve. This requires the Council to ensure the land is preserved in its original state.</p><br>

<p>Hamilton City Council will focus on the historical development of the place and people associated with it. The cottage could be used as a historical educational tool and low scale events.</p><br>

<p>Murphy Lake  is a lake in Itasca County, Minnesota, United States. Murphy Lake lies at an elevation of 1332 feet . Maximum depth is about 15 ft. Murphy Lake is approximately 18 miles north of Grand Rapids.</p><br>
<p>Known fish spices in Murphy Lake include Northern Pike, Rock Bass, Perch, and (grey) Suckers. Wild rice does not grow in Murphy Lake.</p><br>
<p>In addition to numerous springs, water flows into Murphy Lake from the northeast from Arrowhead Lake. Water flows out of Murphy Lake via a creek on the south side and flows into the Hanson Lake chain of lakes.</p><br>
<p>A public access on the west side of Murphy Lake is accessible from the Murphy Lake Road which perpendicularly adjoins Itasca County Road 49 (Spider Lake Road). Another access road on the east side of Murphy Lake also serves access to the south side of Arrowhead Lake. The only privately owned parcel is on the north side of the lake.</p><br>
<p>Sjøholmen is an area between Sandvika and Høvikodden in Bærum, Norway. Originally farmland, it was used as a residential property from 1898, and then for various municipal institutions since the 1970s.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The area is located east of Sandvika, west of Høvikodden and southwest of the population centre Blommenholm. In medieval times, Sjøholmen belonged to the farm Blommenholm, which in turn was a part of the estate Nesøygodset. A cotter&#39;s farm was later established at Sjøholmen. From 1872, when the Drammen Line was opened through Bærum, the largely rural municipality went through a suburbanization process. Jurist Carl Herman Halvorsen bought Blommenholm in the same year, and from 1876 he partitioned and sold parcels, mostly to town dwellers. Halvorsen&mdash;who also served as mayor of Bærum&mdash;then sold the entire Blommenholm farm in 1898, except for Sjøholmen, where he moved into a newly erected Swiss-style villa.</p><br>
<p>Halvorsen moved to the city in 1907, but some years later Sjøholmen was bought by automobile designer Clarin Mustad. Under his ownership, the property was used for fruit cultivation and poultry breeding. A stable and a bathing hut were erected, and the villa was redesigned in 1920 by architect Arnstein Arneberg. Also, a part of the garden was used as a private graveyard.</p><br>
<p>After Clarin Mustad&#39;s death in 1948 the property was passed on to his son, before being bought by Fred. Olsen in 1970. It was bought by Bærum municipality shortly thereafter. The property now houses several municipal-run institutions: the extracurricular Municipal School of Music and Culture; the alternative school Sandviksbukta; as well as Sjøholmen Maritime Center, where primary school children are educated in proper conduct at sea. The maritime center also rents out of boats and canoes. The islands south of Sandvika, chiefly Borøya, are accessible by canoe.</p><br>
<h2>Transport</h2><br>
<p>Sjøholmen is associated with boat transport, and the area is accessible by foot as a part of the so-called coastal pathway. Two parallel roads runs north of Sjøholmen, separating it from Blommenholm, namely the Norwegian National Road 164 and the European route E18 highway. Parts of the Sjøholmen property were consumed when the highway was built in 1963&ndash;1964.</p><br>
<p>In terms of public transport, Sjøholmen is served by the lines 151, 169 and 262 of the Ruter bus network; the proximate bus station is named Blommenholm. In addition, the town of Sandvika with its railway station is within walking distance.</p><br>
<p>The Main Street Historic District in Miles City, Montana comprises much of the central business district of the town, extending along Main Street roughly between Prairie Avenue and Fourth Street. It was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.</p><br>

<h2>City Hall and Fire Station (19 South 8th Street)</h2><br>
<p>The transformation of Miles City in the early 1900s into the economic, social, and governmental center of the valley precipitated the decision to build a permanent city hall. Ed Arnold, tailor and businessman, became one of the motivating forces behind the project to erect the new facility. Arriving in Miles City in 1885, Arnold served as city treasurer for two terms and achieved the position of secretary in the Custer County building. Designed by Grover C. Pruett, one of Miles City’s most successful engineer/architects in the early twentieth century, this structure is Pruett’s greatest landmark in the city. The two-story concrete Renaissance Revival style building faced in Hebron brick is a good example of the new “academically correct” Renaissance styling and is a symbol of Miles City as a progressive and cosmopolitan town. The words “City Hall” are carved into the sandstone frieze above the portal as a permanent reminder of the building’s continued public service since 1914.</p><br>
<h2>Commercial Block (511 Main Street)</h2><br>
<p>The I. Orschel & Brothers clothing firm first located on this site in 1878 in a small wood-frame building. Following a disastrous fire that leveled much of the block, local businessmen formed a syndicate to build this four-part commercial building designed by Byron Vreeland, Miles City’s first resident architect. Completed in the fall of 1885, John Carter’s Saloon (509), I. Orschel & Brothers Clothing Store (511), Miles & Strevell’s Hardware (513), and Basinski Brothers (515) were the original occupants. The combination of Romanesque Revival, Gothic Revival, and Queen Anne-style detailing carries Vreeland’s architectural signature. Although the parapets and towers that originally graced the roofline have long been removed, the brownstone windowsills, polychrome tile, soft brick, and cast iron columns survive. The Orschels’ landmark business catered to local cowboys at this location until 1940. The brothers let cowboys keep their trunks on the upper floor until they came to town to change clothes. Inside, the original tin ceiling remains intact.</p><br>
<h2>First Presbyterian Church (1401 Main Street)</h2><br>
<p>Charter members George and Helen Miles bestowed this land on the church in 1882. Since that time the First Presbyterian Church has occupied this space. Church trustees met in 1911 to discuss the construction of a larger $30,000-$40,000 church. Pastor Reverend J. Forsythe Smith reasoned that a new house of worship would “provide better social advantages, better intellectual advantages, and better moral and spiritual advantages.” In addition to a larger worship space, the modern facility would include a Sunday school and choir room. Architect Brynjulf Rivenes designed the concrete and brick edifice on the same site as the old church, which was sold and relocated to face North Prairie. Western Granite and Marble Works of Miles City donated the cornerstone, laid on November 26, 1914. C. N. Strevell gifted the main stained glass window fronting Montana Avenue. The oak finished, 871-pipe Estry organ was specially designed to fit the organ chamber. Dedicated in 1917, this impressive Gothic Revival style church conveys a sense of stability and permanence.</p><br>
<h2>Jackson Block (808 Main Street)</h2><br>
<p>The Jackson Block’s spare façade bears witness to those watchwords of modern architecture, “form follows function.” The two-story building suggests ways that urban architectural trends were translated and adapted in small communities. Its main decoration derives from the pattern created by its windows; in this, the 1909 commercial block echoes the emphasis found in turn-of-the-century “Chicago-style” skyscrapers on “light, space, air, and strength” rather than ornamentation. Miles City architect Brynjulf Rivenes designed the surprisingly modern building for entrepreneur W. C. Jackson, a confectioner who owned a shop at 613 Main. With fellow Miles City businessman Ed Arnold, Jackson also invested in the next-door Arnold Block. Built in 1913, it matched the lines of the Jackson Block, and doorways connected the buildings on the second floor. From Jackson Block storefronts merchants sold pianos, office equipment, clothing, and dry goods. Second-floor tenants included Brynjulf Rivenes and the Montana Institute, a private school that offered both day and night classes in automobile engineering, bookkeeping, stenography, and penmanship.</p><br>
<h2>Kenney Block (Montana Saloon) (612 Main Street)</h2><br>
<p>This popular gathering place, one of Miles City’s oldest established businesses, has been proclaimed by connoisseurs the perfect bar. Originally a saloon (1893), then a fine saddlery (1900-1907), businessman James Kenney purchased the property in 1908 to house his Montana Saloon. Architect Brynjulf Rivenes designed the 1913 Renaissance Revival style façade and the double structure was renamed the Kenney Block. The spacious saloon, occupying half the ground-floor space, features one of the state’s best preserved historic interiors. The original pressed tin ceiling, three-pillared back bar, mosaic floor tiles, paddle fans, leather booths, wooden cooler, and leaded glass (with vintage bullet hole) invite a journey into Montana’s colorful past.</p><br>
<h2>Dr. Redd's Brick Building</h2><br>
<p>Dr. Robert G. Redd served as an army surgeon at Fort Keogh in the 1870s. Redd resigned in 1881 to assume a private practice. He served as county physician, coroner, and surgeon for the Northern Pacific Railroad as well as mayor from 1889 to 1900. He commissioned architect Byron Vreeland to design a two-story permanent building for his drug store. Henry C. Smith—mayor from 1911 to 1913—purchased the edifice in 1908 and contracted with city engineer Grover C. Pruett to remodel the façade in 1915. The marble and terra cotta Renaissance Revival style of the building was rare in Miles City and Smith used it to advertise the city’s cosmopolitan attributes in the early twentieth century. “1915” adorns a terra cotta rectangle above the windows and the entrance bears a polychrome mosaic tile floor arranged in the image of a pocket watch. Although remodeling obliterated the original façade, the original 1883 corbelling remains on the east side.</p><br>
<h2>Shore - Newcom Building</h2><br>
<p>The Shore-Newcom Store opened in 1900 in the Foster Building at 701 Main. Owned and operated by Thomas Shore and Wirt H. Newcom, the store handled mercantile goods. They moved to 709 Main in 1905, and upon the completion of this structure in 1914, the store expanded next door to include gentlemen’s and ladies’ ready-to-wear. By 1922, the company had grown into the third largest general merchandise business in the state. The partnership dissolved in 1922 but Shore remained involved in the venture. The Shore family continued operating a department store late into the twentieth century. Shore and Newcom, like building owner George Miles, were typical of Miles City businessmen who wanted to display their confidence in the city’s future through progressive and sophisticated buildings. Construction here represented a visible symbol of the partnership’s success as well as the city’s. Architecturally, the building is an outstanding example the Renaissance Revival style&#39;s streamlined appearance. One of the best surviving examples in Miles City, the building and its simple lines reflect the desire for a modern business district.</p><br>
<p>The Old Southeast Church is located at the end of a short dirt road leading from NY 22 in the Town of Southeast, New York, United States, a few miles north of the village of Brewster. It is a wooden building formerly used by a Presbyterian congregation. Built in the late 18th century and later modified following a fire, it is the oldest house of worship in Putnam County. Today many of its materials are intact but it is the subject of ongoing preservation efforts.</p><br>
<p>It and a small one-room schoolhouse nearby are the few remaining buildings from the former hamlet of Doanesburgh, once the commercial center of eastern Putnam County. In 1972 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the first property in the county to be so listed. It is currently owned by the Landmarks Preservation Society of Southeast and used occasionally as a cultural center.</p><br>
<h2>Building</h2><br>
<p>The church is a two-story, three-by-four-bay building sided in white clapboard. It is regularly fenestrated with 12-over-12 double-hung sash windows in all bays. The gabled roof has a projecting steeple on the west end, right over the main entrance.</p><br>
<p>That entrance leads to a vestibule and then inside to the sanctuary. It features wainscoting beneath the chair rail as well as paneling on the gallery parapet, and painted and grained pews. The gallery and ceiling are supported by Doric columns, and the original 19th-century light fixtures.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The first church in the area was built of logs in the late 1730s. In 1761, a small frame meeting house was built to strict standards for such buildings, measuring 50 by with the entrance south of the pulpit. Three decades later, in 1793, the congregation decided to expand again and was authorized to use as much or as little of the meetinghouse as necessary to build a newer building. It was completed the following year.</p><br>
<p>In 1830 the building was severely damaged in a fire. When it was rebuilt, a number of alterations were made to both interior and exterior. The entrance was moved to its present location, the belfry built and the balcony reoriented. Two brick chimneys were also dismantled and can be seen only from the inside.</p><br>
<p>At the time it was built, the church was in the middle of the hamlet of Doanesburgh, then the commercial center of eastern Putnam County. In the mid-19th century, the New York and Harlem Railroad was built, connecting the region more directly to New York City. It chose a route that bypassed Doanesburgh for the Great Swamp, passing through Brewster, currently still in use as far north as Wassaic by Metro-North&#39;s Harlem Line. Brewster prospered and grew while Doanesburgh diminished, and the church and school are among the few remnants today.</p><br>
<p>The Albany Presbyterian Church and Rectory, also known as Whitespires, is a historic church building in Albany, Oregon, United States. It was built in 1891 in the Carpenter Gothic style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places  in 1979. Although individually listed in the NRHP, it is located within the Monteith Historic District.</p><br>
<p>Whitespires houses a Kimball pipe organ that was installed in 1906.</p><br>
<p>The building is currently the home of the Whitespires Berean Bible Fellowship, also known as Berean Fundamental Church of Albany.</p><br>
<p>The present-day United Presbyterian congregation in Albany (affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA)) gathers in a 1913 church known as the Stone Church.</p><br>
<p>The United States Post Office at Hannibal, Missouri, is a federal building previously used as a post office and as a courthouse. It is also known as the Federal Building or the Naval Reserve Center, and is located at 600 Broadway. The building&#39;s architect was Mifflin E. Bell, and it was completed in 1888. The building is an excellent example of a late Second Empire architectural style. The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri met in this building until 1960, and the USA Circuit Court for that district met here until that court was abolished in 1912. It is now owned by the city.</p><br>
<p>It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 as "Federal Building". It is located in the Central Park Historic District.</p><br>
<p>Nohmul  is a pre-Columbian Maya archaeological site located on the eastern Yucatán Peninsula, in what is today northern Belize. The name Nohmul may be translated as "great mound" in Yucatec Maya. built around 250 BC. Most of the pyramid was destroyed in May 2013 by contractors tearing it apart for rocks and gravel to use to fill roads, leaving only the core of the pyramid behind.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Nohmul was occupied initially during the Preclassic era of Mesoamerican chronology (c. 350 BC to 250 AD). By the 5th century, monumental construction at the site had effectively ceased and the site seems to have been largely abandoned save for some scattered rural-domestic activities. After a hiatus in construction activities of several centuries, Nohmul was reoccupied and large-scale building resumed, with maximal activity seen during the Late Classic era (c. 7th–10th centuries). The site was densely developed and occupied into the 12th century.</p><br>
<p>Built above the Hondo River to control the region&#39;s trade routes, the site was occupied for centuries. At its height, it was the seat of government for an area spanning approximately 8 square miles. Later pre-Columbian residents built structures of the northern Yucatán type over those erected in the Classic era. Some of these more recent constructions covered the front of older stairways. These newer constructions include one that resembles El Caracol, Chichen Itza in Chichén Itzá. These later constructions are evidence supporting the theory that outsiders from the Yucatán settled in Nohmul.</p><br>
<h2>Site description</h2><br>
<p>Nohmul is 10 km north of Orange Walk Town and occupies about 35 km&sup2; making it the largest Maya site in northern Belize. The site includes about 700 visible mounds ranging from 10 to 30 meters in diameter and from 1 to 5 meters in height.</p><br>
<p>Nohmul is noted for its unusual layout, with the urban or ceremonial precinct spanning the crest of a limestone ridge overlooking the Hondo River, a permanent river that forms the modern border between Mexico and Belize. The urban precinct consists of two separate clusters of structures, an East Group and West Group, linked by a raised causeway, or sacbe. The East Group is the larger and has been more extensively excavated. The two groups of buildings have a total of ten plazas. Combined, these complexes include more than 80 separate structures. Most of them were constructed either in the Preclassic or Classic period, although there is evidence of additional building activity in the early Postclassic.</p><br>
<h2>Archaeology</h2><br>
<p>The first published reference to Nohmul occurs in Thomas Gann&#39;s 1897 paper "On the Contents of Some Ancient Mounds in Central America". Gann performed several excavations at the site between 1908 and 1936. Several of the artifacts collected by Gann are now housed at the British Museum in London.</p><br>
<p>Prehistoric features at the site were first mapped in 1973 by Norman Hammond. Hammond returned with a small team in the 1980s to do a series of excavations known as The Nohmul Project.</p><br>
<h2>2013 damage</h2><br>
<p>On May 13, 2013, the largest structure at Nohmul was almost completely destroyed. Contractors used excavators and bulldozers to remove large portions of the central pyramid for its limestone content to fill roads in nearby Douglas Village with gravel. Prior to the destruction, the pyramid had a footprint of approximately 50 by 52 meters and was approximately 17 meters tall. More than 70% of the structure was destroyed. The heavy equipment belonged to De-Mar&#39;s Stone Company, a company owned by UDP politician Denny Grijalva. Although the structure was on privately owned land, by law, all pre-Columbian sites are under national government protection in Belize.</p><br>
<p>John Morris of the Belizean Institute of Archaeology said that the workers would have known that they were bulldozing Maya ruins as the tall structure was unmistakable. Jaime Awe, head of the Belize Institute of Archaeology, noted that the pyramid mound could not have been mistaken for a natural hill as the landscape is otherwise flat and the ruins were well-known.</p><br>
<p>After a lengthy investigation, charges were levied on June 27, 2013 against four individuals: foreman Javier Nunez, excavator driver Emil Cruz, and the managing directors of De-Mars Stone Company, Denny and Emelda Grijalva. In April 2016, Javier Nunez, Denny Grijalva, and Emelda Grijalva were found guilty on two charges: removing earth from an ancient monument without permission and willfully damaging an ancient monument. Each of them were fined BZ$6000, and the De-Mars Stone Company was also fined BZ$6000. Denny Grijalva apologized for the destruction and said that his company would work with the government to ensure that it would not happen again.</p><br>
<p>Similar destruction occurred at the nearby San Estevan site in 2005, as well as at many other ancient sites throughout Belize.</p><br>
<p>The is a prominent hill in Stuttgart, Germany. At an elevation of 511m, it is the highest point in the city centre of Stuttgart and is almost 300m higher than the river Neckar on which the city lies. It is in part a Schuttberg, an artificial hill built from the ruins and rubble from World War II.</p><br>
<p>During the war, 53 Allied bombing missions destroyed over 45% of Stuttgart, and nearly the entire city center. Between 1953 and 1957, 1.5 million cubic meters of rubble were cleared and moved to the hill, which resulted in an increase in height of around 40 meters. At the summit there are many recognizable facades from ruined buildings. The locals colloquially call the Birkenkopf "Monte Scherbelino", which roughly translates as "Mount Shards" but in an expression alluding to Italian. One of the pieces of rubble has a plaque attached to it, which says: Dieser Berg nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg aufgetürmt aus den Trümmern der Stadt steht den Opfern zum Gedächtnis den Lebenden zur Mahnung. This translates roughly as: This mountain piled up after World War II from the rubble of the city stands as a memorial to the victims and a warning to the living.</p><br>
<p>From the summit the whole city center can be seen, and on a clear day the view extends to the Swabian Alb, to the Black Forest, and the lowlands of Württemberg. On the summit there is a steel cross, which in 2003 replaced the original 1953 wooden cross. In the summer, early morning services are held on Sundays here.</p><br>
<p>Lago de Oviedo, also known as Laguna de Oviedo, is a saltwater lake in Jaragua National Park, Pedernales Province, Dominican Republic. It is approximately 25 km in area, making it the second largest body of water in the Dominican Republic after Lake Enriquillo.</p><br>
<p>Although receiving freshwater from the Bahoruco Mountain Range, the lake is hypersaline due to sea water flowing into the lake through an underground system caused by a karstic depression. Salinity levels show seasonal changes due to precipitation, evaporation and the amount of freshwater input.</p><br>
<p>One of the most notable aspects of this lake is the greenish aspect of its water, caused by limestone sediments being dragged into the lake by the underground water flow.</p><br>
<p>Its unique flora and fauna are perhaps its most interesting feature; flamingos, Rhinoceros Iguana, mangroves, various species of endemic birds and several cays inside the lake are a common sighting.</p><br>
<p>Robert P. Aitken Farm House is an Italianate residence in Flint Township, Michigan. The house has several excellent qualities of the Italianate style. The main portion of the house is two stories tall, with paired eavesline brackets, a hip roof, and a cupola. The cupola has delicate scrollwork brackets in the corners, rounded arch windows, and paired brackets under the eaves. The house has two additions with gable roofs and eyebrow windows, indicating Greek Revival architecture, so there is some speculation that those additions were earlier parts of the structure.</p><br>
<p>Robert P. Aitken (1819–1873) moved to Flint Township, Michigan from New York in 1842. He married Sarah J. Johnstone, also from New York, in 1843. The exact date of construction is not known, but is presumed to be after 1843. Aitken was a successful farmer, a Union soldier in the Civil War, and a politician, serving as the supervisor of Flint Township and a representative to the Michigan Legislature. The family had five daughters and five sons. His son David D. Aitken (1853–1930) later operated the farm and served in the United States House of Representatives.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 26, 1982.</p><br>
<p>River Mill Hydroelectric Project, also known as River Mill Dam and Station M, is a hydroelectric dam and powerhouse in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States. It is just north of Estacada, Oregon, on the Clackamas River at river mile 23.5 .</p><br>
<p>The dam has been in continuous production of hydroelectric power since 1911, when its construction was funded by the Portland Railway, Light and Power Company. It was one of four related projects on the Clackamas River: the Oak Grove Hydroelectric Project (developed 1923–56), the North Fork dam (1958), and the Faraday Dam (1907–10), all upstream (south) of River Mill. All four are still owned and operated by the successor company, Portland General Electric.</p><br>
<p>The principle designer of the original Mill Run Dam was the Norwegian immigrant Nils F. Ambursen (1876–1958). Based in Boston, his Ambursen Hydraulic Construction Company designed over a hundred dams in the United States from 1903 through 1917. Ambursen&#39;s patented concrete-slab-and-buttress dam design was a significant advance in dam design of this era. Mill Run is one of only three Ambursen-type dams built west of the Mississippi, and evidently the only one to survive.</p><br>
<p>The project is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in the Oregon Historic Sites Database of the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office.</p><br>
<p>Bushey Hall Golf Club, founded by Robert Stewart Clouston in 1889, is one of the oldest parkland golf courses in Hertfordshire. Originally opened as a nine-hole course, it was extended to the full 18 holes by 1893 and is now a 6,005-yard course.</p><br>
<h2>Bushey Hall history</h2><br>
<p>The first captain of Bushey Hall Golf Club was A.J Balfour who accepted presidency at the first official meeting on 24 March 1890.</p><br>
<p>Throughout Bushey’s history the club was run by a series of different proprietors, who through various measures ensured the club thrived. The fairways received an enviable reputation and the clubhouse was extended to cover two storeys with an open veranda overlooking the 18th hole for £1,100.</p><br>
<h3>First and Second World Wars</h3><br>
<p>During both the world wars the club was requisitioned by the government, during the first used as a training depot for the Brigade of Guards and during the second as a base for American forces. Unlike the First World War, during the Second World War play was allowed at the course, although access to the clubhouse was restricted.</p><br>
<h3>Recent history</h3><br>
<p>In 1986, the freehold of the course and club was sold to London-based hotel group Veladail Leisure, who now own and operate the club. Over half a million pounds has recently been spent on new tees, irrigation systems, golf buggies, equipment for maintaining the course and refurbishing the club house.</p><br>
<p>The Bonaparte Archipelago is a group of islands off the coast of Western Australia in the Kimberley region, within the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley. The closest inhabited place is Kalumburu located about 100 km to the east of the island group. The archipelago was named by the Baudin expedition on 16 August 1801 after Napoleon Bonaparte, First Consul of France.</p><br>
<p>The archipelago is made up of the islands and islets lying off a stretch of 150 km of coastline, roughly between Collier Bay to the SW and Admiralty Gulf to the NE, including islands in Admiralty Gulf itself. The islands are mostly small, and many are best described as islets or emergent rocks. They number several hundred in total. Several submerged banks and shoals are also found within the archipelago.</p><br>
<p>The largest island in the group is Augustus Island which has an area of 190 km&sup2;. Another significant island is the 3 ha Booby Island, which is classified as an Important Bird Area and Jungulu Island found just off-shore from Augustus Island.</p><br>
<p>Other islands in the group include Uwins Island, Coronation Island and Bigge Island.</p><br>
<p>The John Olness House is a house in Kragnes Township, Clay County, Minnesota, just north of Moorhead on USA Route 75. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as an example of a link between the farm communities and the farm-related businesses in Clay County. The architecture shows influences of the Queen Anne style, which stands out in Clay County because most buildings were in the local vernacular style. The owner, John Olness, was a successful farmer, and he also owned several businesses in the nearby community of Kragnes, including the local grain elevator and lumber yard.</p><br>
<p>The house received media attention during the 2009 Red River Flood. On March 24, 2009, owner Jeremy Kuipers discovered that the floodwaters had overcome a dike along a county road and surrounded the house. Dozens of volunteers filled sandbags and built a dike around the house. The floodwaters are expected to threaten the house for the next two weeks before subsiding.</p><br>
<p>The River Raisin National Battlefield Park was established as the 393rd unit of the United States National Park Service under Title VII of the Omnibus Public Land Management Act, which was signed into law on March 30, 2009. The park is located in the city of Monroe in Monroe County, Michigan. It was designated as a Michigan Historic Site on February 18, 1956 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1982. It officially began operation as a national park unit on October 22, 2010 and, of the four National Battlefield Parks in the country, it is the only one marking a site of the War of 1812.</p><br>
<h2>Background</h2><br>
<p>The area was the site of the costly Battle of Frenchtown, in which 397 Americans were killed and 547 taken prisoner after surrender to the British Army and Indian coalition during the War of 1812. The fighting took place from January 18–23, 1813. The first engagement, sometimes referred to as the “first” Battle of the River Raisin, was a success for the American forces against the British and Indian alliance. Angered by their forced retreat, the British and Native Americans counterattacked the unsuspecting American forces four days later on January 22 in the same location along the River Raisin. Many of the Americans were inexperienced troops from Kentucky; they were ill-prepared and were unable to retreat from the ambush.</p><br>
<p>During the Battle of Frenchtown, American brigadier general James Winchester reported that only 33 of his approximate 1,000 men escaped the battlefield. 397 were killed, and 547 were taken prisoner, which marked the deadliest conflict ever on Michigan soil and the worst single defeat the Americans suffered in the entire War of 1812. The day after the battle, dozens of defenseless and wounded Americans were killed on January 23 by the Native Americans, mostly Potawatomi, in what is referred to as the River Raisin Massacre. The total casualties among the British and Native American alliance are unknown. Surviving prisoners were forced to march toward Detroit, and those who could not keep up were killed along the way.</p><br>
<h2>Recent history</h2><br>
<p>The River Raisin Battlefield Site was listed as a Michigan Historic Site on February 18, 1956, although the exact date at which the park was first organized is unknown. The location of the site is bounded by North Dixie Highway, the River Raisin, Detroit Avenue, and Mason Run Creek. The Battle of Frenchtown is so named because it took place in and surrounding the Frenchtown Settlement (1784), on the River Raisin&#39;s north bank and within the present-day city limits of Monroe. The area of conflict extended during the three days of battle several miles to the north and south of the current park site. After the battles, Frenchtown was gradually abandoned and the present-day city of Monroe developed from its downtown site 1.5 miles west and on the opposite bank of the River Raisin. The current park area encompasses some 40 acres (16 ha) of undeveloped land on Monroe’s east side approximately one-quarter mile (0.4 km) east of Interstate 75. The area contains houses on the outer fringe along East Elm Avenue, and much of the area is occupied by urban development. The River Raisin Paper Company built a large paper mill on the site around 1911, which operated under multiple owners until 1995.</p><br>
<p>The site was recognized nationally when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 10, 1982. It was officially listed as the River Raisin Battlefield Site (20MR227). In July 1990, the Monroe County Historic Commission and the Monroe County Historic Society opened the River Raisin Battlefield Visitor Center within the site at 1403 East Elm Avenue. The museum contains a few relics from the original battle that were discovered during archeological investigations. The park holds a memorial service every January to commemorate all the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Frenchtown, including the British and Indian soldiers who were allied against the Americans.</p><br>
<p>Expansion to the present-day park boundaries commenced in 1995 with closure of the paper mill, at which time the City of Monroe organized efforts to restore the entire battlefield site. The City, Historical Society, and property owner negotiated, acquired and facilitated clean up the former paper mill property and adjacent landfill area for future donation to the park service. In addition they transferred a large expanse of wetlands marsh to the State of Michigan for expansion of the adjacent Sterling State Park. Acquisitions were complete by 2006, the paper mill was demolished by 2009, the cleanup finished in 2010, and land transfers were completed in 2011.</p><br>
<h3>Promotion to the National Park System</h3><br>
<p>The River Raisin Battlefield Site was chosen to be included as a unit of the National Park System. The River Raisin National Battlefield Act (H.R. 401.IH), which was passed by the House of Representatives of the 111th Congress on January 9, 2009, said that the future national battlefield site would include land in both Monroe and Wayne counties that has been deemed significant to the Battle of Frenchtown.</p><br>
<p>The passing of the Omnibus Public Land Management Act on March 30, 2009, allocated the funding necessary to promote the site to the status of a National Battlefield Park. The park had been authorized as such but was not officially established until this bill was passed. It was included in the bill thanks to the work of Michigan natives and United States senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, as well as Congressman John Dingell, a history enthusiast. The site is only the fourth National Battlefield Park in the United States National Park System and is the only one commemorating the War of 1812. Battlefields, however, have been designated using various terms, even within the national park system. These include National Battlefield (without "Park" in the name), National Military Park, National Battlefield Site, National Historical Park, National Monument, and National Historic Site. River Raisin is the fifth national park unit in Michigan. Others include Isle Royale National Park, Keweenaw National Historical Park, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore; Father Marquette National Memorial is an affiliated unit.</p><br>
<p>The park is still being developed to meet National Park Service standards, with elements dependent on additional funding. Some areas have yet to be restored to landscapes of the era of the battle.</p><br>
<p>The battlefield site is expected to generate a positive economic effect in tourism. Projected attendance to the park upon its completion was estimated to range from 20,000–25,000 visitors a year, but during FY 2012, the Battlefield was visited by 52,027 people. The other three National Battlefield Parks, which all relate to the Civil War, receive more visitors, based on attendance figures from 2005: Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park (1,005,510), Manassas National Battlefield Park (715,622), and Richmond National Battlefield Park (68,438).</p><br>
<p>In 2010 the battlefield park was connected to the nearby Sterling State Park through a newly completed nature trail, which is expected to increase the number of visitors in both parks. The president of the Monroe County Historical Society, William Braunlich, hoped to complete elements in the park before the bicentennial celebration of the Battle of Frenchtown on January 22, 2013. The site began operations as a National Park unit on October 22, 2010.</p><br>
<h2>Historic markers</h2><br>
<p>The Theban Tomb TT319 is located in Deir el-Bahari, part of the Theban Necropolis, on the west bank of the Nile, opposite to Luxor. The tomb belongs to the king&#39;s wife Neferu II, wife of the Ancient Egyptian king Mentuhotep II . Neferu was the daughter of Queen Iah and Intef III.</p><br>
<p>The tomb of Neferu consisted of a chapel paved with slabs of limestone and carved into the rocks of Thebes. This chapel was decorated with scenes in sunken and raised relief. They show the queen with hairdressers, servants and religioues scenes. However, today the scenes are only badly preserved. The stones of the chapel were already in ancient times used as quarry. These fragments are now in many museums around the world.</p><br>
<p>Behind the chapel there was a corridor leading to the burial chamber which was also decorated. On the walls are painted friezes of burial goods and long religious texts, such as Coffin Texts. In the burial chamber there also stood the sarcophagus of the queen. The chamber was found disturbed, when excavated.</p><br>
<p>The tomb is located just to the north of the mortuary temple of Mentuhotep II, and is currently under the temple of Hatshepsut. An entrance was left open in this later construction</p><br>
<p>The Frederick C. Bogk House is Frank Lloyd Wrights only single-family residential project in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Bogk was an alderman and secretary-treasurer of the Ricketson Paint Works. This house embodies Wrights prairie style elements into a solid-looking structure that appears impregnable.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>In the mid-1910s, developer Arthur Richards was promoting Wright. He had designed several projects for associates of Richards, but only two were built - the Munkwitz Apartments (Milwaukee, 1916), and this residence for Frederick C. Bogk. By this time, Wright&#39;s popularity was in decline, mostly due to personal troubles. The house was designed in 1916, shortly after the murder of his mistress, Mamah Borthwick, and destruction of the residential wing at his home, Taliesin, and during the same period as his Imperial Hotel in Tokyo.</p><br>
<p>The house was built in 1917 at a cost of $15,000. The current owners, Robert and Barbara Elsner, purchased the home in 1955.</p><br>
<h2>Design</h2><br>
<p>The façade of the Bogk house, with its buff brick columns framing leaded art glass windows, capped by decorative cast concrete under broad eaves and a low pitched hip roof suggests the influence of the Imperial Hotel in Japan, which was under construction at the time this house was built. The sophisticated balance of horizontal and vertical lines further reflects the strong Japanese influence.</p><br>
<p>The understated entrance is located at the side of the house, opening onto the driveway. The first-floor interior is a fluid succession of rooms sprawling under a low-lying ceiling. The living room extends across the front of the house, with a dining room at the right rear of the living room, up a few steps. A bedroom above the attached garage at the rear was for the maid; this extends out of the rectangular plan of the main house. There are four bedrooms and a sitting room upstairs.</p><br>
<p>Tall, narrow leaded glass windows both frame the regular windows, and appear by themselves as design elements. Similar glass panes are embedded in interior brick walls, with lights behind. There is a tiled goldfish pond against one wall of the living room, and a plaque above it with and image of cranes. Built-in light fixtures and other decorative elements are common. There is some built-in furniture, such as desks and bookshelves. The other furniture is not original to the house, but is Wrights design. The current carpeting is a reproduction of Wrights original design.</p><br>
<p>Gracehill Moravian Church and Cemetery is a historic church and cemetery located southwest of Washington, Iowa, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. In 1854 the Provincial Board of the Moravian Church provided the funds to Amos Miksch to buy a substantial amount of property to create a Moravian settlement. Lots of various sizes were sold to colony members. Gracehill was organized in 1866, and the church building was completed the next year.</p><br>
<p>The cemetery was laid out the same year. The church is a simple rectangular, frame structure that measures 50 by. A two-stage bell tower rises over the main entrance. From 1908 until it closed in 1970 Gracehill was the last of Iowa&#39;s seven Moravian communities. While the congregation continued until 1970, the last resident</p><br>
<p>minister left in 1932. Graves in the cemetery were originally laid out with men on the north and women on the south. After the 1890s people were buried in family plots.</p><br>
<p>Old Brick Church, which is also known as Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian  Church or First Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church is a church built in 1788 about 4 mi north of Jenkinsville on SC 213 in Fairfield County, South Carolina. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places on August 19, 1971. It is one of the few 18th-century churches surviving in the South Carolina midlands.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>In the 1770s, Presbyterian settlers from Scotland and Ireland built a log church. This was replaced by a brick church on the Little River in 1788. This church is a simple, rectangular, brick building with a gabled roof. The bricks were handmade by members of the congregation. The church has straight-back, wooden pews. There is a dais pulpit against the east wall that is three steps above floor level. The dais has a bible stand and has rails on the two sides. On the west end, there is a slave gallery. In 1852, a stone wall was built around the church and cemetery.</p><br>
<p>Pastors of the church include James Rogers (1791–1830), James Boyce (1832–1843), Thomas Ketchin (1844–1852), C.B. Betts (1855–1869), Allen Grier Kirkpatrick (1896–1899).</p><br>
<p>On May 9, 1803, the church was used for a meeting of ministers and church elders that resulted in the formation of the Associate Reformed Synod of the Carolinas. Although not the first Associate Reformed Church in South Carolina, Old Brick Church is considered the "mother church" or "birthplace" of the ARP Church in South Carolina.</p><br>
<p>The church grew in the period of before the Civil War. But many of its male congregants enlisted in the Confederate Army once war began in 1861. Several are buried in the church graveyard. During the war, Union Army soldiers used part of the floor to reconstruct a bridge over the Little River. There is a pencilled apology on an interior wall that was left by soldier "Citizens of this community: Please excuse us for defacing your house of worship, so much. It was absolutely necessary to effect a crossing over the creek, the Rebs had destroyed the bridge. A Yankee."</p><br>
<p>After the war, the church congregation shrank. After Rev. Betts resigned in 1869, the church had infrequent supply pastors, but it eventually disappeared from the Presbytery rolls. In the 1891, the church was revived by Rev. A. G. Kirkpatrick, who was pastor in another church. In 1893, it was reorganized on August 25, 1893. In 1896, Kirkpatrick became its pastor.</p><br>
<p>In the 1920s, the congregation moved to a new building. Old Brick Church is used for special services.</p><br>
<h2>Historical Marker</h2><br>
<p>The site was made a historical marker in 1962 by Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce. The historical marker is located near Jenkinsville Fairfield County South Carolina on Monjicono Road. The historical marker sets a point in history where religion was brought to the area and represents an important place during the American Civil War. The marker is also a record of time which the rock wall was added in 1852</p><br>
<p>The Piti Guns or Piti Coastal Defense Guns is the site of three Vickers-type Model 3 140 mm coastal defense guns in the War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Piti, Guam. The Japanese manufactured these Model 3 coastal defense guns in 1914. During the Japanese Occupation of Guam from 1941-1944, they built up defensive positions on the island. The Chamorro population was forced to work in building up these defenses, and did so here at the Piti Guns.</p><br>
<p>The Piti guns were strategically placed in a village consisting mostly of rice paddies in 1944. This area was chosen to defend the beach at Asan from a possible invasion. These guns have a firing range of close to 10 mi and were intended for use against ships and landing craft. When the United States Armed Forces came to retake the island on July 21, 1944 these guns were not fully operational. Consequently, not one of the three coastal defense guns was ever fired. However, these guns are representative of the type of weapons used by the Japanese on Guam for fortification efforts.</p><br>
<h2>Visiting</h2><br>
<p>The Piti Guns are located in the War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Piti, Guam, and are freely accessible by the general public. The trailhead is located at in a residential neighborhood behind a church social hall on Father Mel Street in Piti, Guam. The guns are located a short walk up a staircase from the trailhead.</p><br>
<p>Borexino is a particle physics experiment to study low energy  solar neutrinos.</p><br>
<p>The detector is the world&#39;s most radio-pure liquid scintillator calorimeter. It is placed within a stainless steel sphere which holds the signal detectors (photomultiplier tubes or PMTs) and is shielded by a water tank to protect it against external radiation and tag incoming cosmic muons that manage to penetrate the overburden of the mountain above.</p><br>
<p>The primary aim of the experiment is to make a precise measurement of the individual neutrino fluxes from the Sun and compare them to the Standard solar model predictions. This will allow scientists to test and to further understand the functioning of the Sun (e.g., nuclear fusion processes taking place at the core of the Sun, solar composition, opacities, matter distribution, etc.) and will also help determine properties of neutrino oscillations, including the MSW effect. Specific goals of the experiment are to detect beryllium-7, boron-8, pp, pep and CNO solar neutrinos as well as anti-neutrinos from the Earth and nuclear power plants. The project may also be able to detect neutrinos from supernovae within our galaxy with a special potential to detect the elastic scattering of neutrinos onto protons, due to neutral current interactions. Borexino is a member of the Supernova Early Warning System. Searches for rare processes and potential unknown particles are also underway.</p><br>
<p>The name Borexino is the Italian diminutive of BOREX (BORon solar neutrino EXperiment), after the original 1 kT-fiducial experimental proposal with a different scintillator (TMB), was discontinued because of a shift in focus in physics goals as well as financial constraints. The experiment is located at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso near the town of L&#39;Aquila, Italy, and is supported by an international collaboration with researchers from Italy, the United States, Germany, France, Poland and Russia. The experiment is funded by multiple national agencies including the INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics) and the NSF (National Science Foundation). In May 2017, Borexino reached 10 years of continuous operation since the start of its data-taking period in 2007.</p><br>
<p>The SOX project will study the possible existence of sterile neutrinos or other anomalous effects in neutrino oscillations at short ranges.</p><br>
<h2>Results and detector timeline</h2><br>
<p>As of May 2007, the Borexino detector started taking data. The project first detected solar neutrinos in August 2007. This detection occurred in real-time. The data analysis was further extended in 2008.</p><br>
<p>In 2010, geoneutrinos from Earth&#39;s interior were observed for the first time in Borexino. These are anti-neutrinos produced in radioactive decays of uranium, thorium, potassium, and rubidium, although only the anti-neutrinos emitted in the U/Th chains are visible because of the inverse beta decay reaction channel Borexino is sensitive to. That year, the lowest-threshold (3 MeV) measurement of the B solar neutrino flux was also published. Additionally, a multi-source detector calibration campaign took place, where several radioactive sources were inserted in the detector to study its response to known signals which are close to the expected ones to be studied.</p><br>
<p>In 2011, the experiment published a precision measurement of the beryllium-7 neutrino flux, as well as the first evidence for the pep solar neutrinos.</p><br>
<p>In 2012, they published the results of measurements of the speed of CERN Neutrinos to Gran Sasso. The results were consistent with the speed of light. See measurements of neutrino speed. An extensive scintillator purification campaign was also performed, achieving the successful goal of further reducing the residual background radioactivity levels to unprecedented low amounts (up to 15 orders of magnitude under natural background radioactivity levels).</p><br>
<p>In 2013, Borexino set a limit on sterile neutrino parameters. They also extracted a signal of geoneutrinos, which gives insight into radioactive element activity in the earth&#39;s crust, a hitherto unclear field.</p><br>
<p>In 2014, the experimental collaboration published an analysis of the proton–proton fusion activity in the solar core, finding solar activity has been consistently stable on a 10-year scale. Once the phenomenon of neutrino oscillations, as described by MSW theory, is considered, the measurement of Borexino is consistent with the expectations from the standard solar model. The result of Borexino is a milestone in our understanding of the functioning of the Sun. It should be noted that the previous experiments sensitive to low energy neutrinos (SAGE, Gallex, GNO) have succeeded to count the neutrinos above a certain energy, but did not measure the individual fluxes.</p><br>
<p>In 2015, an updated spectral analysis of geoneutrinos was presented, and the world best limit on the electric charge non-conservation was set. Additionally, a versatile Temperature Management and Monitoring System was installed in several phases throughout 2015. It consists of the multi-sensor Latitudinal Temperature Probe System (LTPS), whose testing and first-phase installation occurred in late 2014; and the Thermal Insulation System (TIS), that minimized the thermal influence of the exterior environment on the interior fluids through the extensive insulation of the experiment&#39;s external walls. Later in 2015, Borexino also yielded the best available limit to the lifetime of the electron (via e→γ+ν decay), providing the most stringent confirmation of charge conservation to date.</p><br>
<p>In 2017, Borexino provided the first wideband spectroscopic measurement of the solar ν spectrum, featuring the simultaneous and most precise measurements available of the Be, pep and pp neutrino fluxes, furthermore extracted from a single extended energy window (190-2930 keV). These measurements reached a precision of up to 2.7% (in the case of the beryllium solar neutrinos) and established a 5σ confirmation of the presence of pep neutrinos. The limit on the long sought-after CNO neutrinos was kept at the same significance level as in previous Borexino results, which hold the best limit so far, but with weaker assumptions, making the result more robust. Much enlarged statistics thanks to the extra years of exposure, as well as renewed analysis techniques and MonteCarlo state-of-the-art simulations of the whole detector and its physical processes were instrumental in this result. Additionally, an updated observation of B neutrinos was published with Phase I and II data (2008-2016), improving precision to around twice that of the previous measurement of this solar component, and hinting at a slight favoring of the high-metallicity SSMs with the available solar neutrino data. An improvement in the sensitivity to the seasonal modulation of the solar neutrino signal was also reported in 2017. That same year, the best direct-observation limit available for the neutrino magnetic moment was established by Borexino too. A neutrino signal related to the GW150914, GW151226 and GW170104 gravitational wave observations was rejected to within Borexino&#39;s sensitivity, as expected.</p><br>
<h2>SOX project</h2><br>
<p>The SOX experiment aims at the complete confirmation or at a clear disproof of the so-called neutrino anomalies, a set of circumstantial evidences of electron neutrino disappearance observed at LSND, MiniBooNE, with nuclear reactors and with solar neutrino Gallium detectors (GALLEX/GNO, SAGE). If successful, SOX will demonstrate the existence of sterile neutrino components and will open a brand new era in fundamental particle physics and cosmology. A solid signal would mean the discovery of the first particles beyond the Standard Electroweak Model and would have profound implications in our understanding of the Universe and of fundamental particle physics. In case of a negative result, it is able to close a long-standing debate about the reality of the neutrino anomalies, would probe the existence of new physics in low energy neutrino interactions, would provide a measurement of neutrino magnetic moment, Weinberg angle and other basic physical parameters; and would yield a superb energy calibration for Borexino which will be very beneficial for future high-precision solar neutrino measurements.</p><br>
<p>SOX will use a powerful (~150 kCi) and innovative antineutrino generator made of Ce-144/Pr-144, and possibly a later Cr-51 neutrino generator, which would require a much shorter data-taking campaign. These generators will be located at short distance (8.5 m) from the Borexino detector -under it, in fact: in a pit built ex-profeso before the detector was erected, with the idea it could be used for the insertion of such radioactive sources- and will yield tens of thousands of clean neutrino interactions in the internal volume of the Borexino detector. The experiment is expected to start in the first half of 2018 and will take data for about two years. In October 2017, an end-to-end "blank" (without radioactive material) transport test was carried out successfully at the Borexino site in LNGS, in order to clear out final regulatory permissions for the start of the experiment, ahead of the arrival of the source.</p><br>
<p>Kelsborrow Castle is an Iron Age hill fort in Cheshire, northern England. Hill forts were fortified hill-top settlements constructed across Britain during the Iron Age. It is one of only seven hill forts in the county of Cheshire and was probably in use for only a short time. In the 19th century, a bronze palstave was recovered from the site. It is protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.</p><br>
<h2>Background</h2><br>
<p>Hill forts developed in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age, roughly the start of the first millennium BC. The reason for their emergence in Britain, and their purpose, has been a subject of debate. It has been argued that they could have been military sites constructed in response to invasion from continental Europe, sites built by invaders, or a military reaction to social tensions caused by an increasing population and consequent pressure on agriculture. The dominant view since the 1960s has been that the increasing use of iron led to social changes in Britain. Deposits of iron ore were located in different places to the tin and copper ore necessary to make bronze, and as a result trading patterns shifted and the old elites lost their economic and social status. Power passed into the hands of a new group of people. Archaeologist Barry Cunliffe believes that population increase still played a role and has stated " provided defensive possibilities for the community at those times when the stress burst out into open warfare. But I wouldn&#39;t see them as having been built because there was a state of war. They would be functional as defensive strongholds when there were tensions and undoubtedly some of them were attacked and destroyed, but this was not the only, or even the most significant, factor in their construction".</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Although there are over 1,300 hill forts in England, they are concentrated in southern England, and there are only seven in Cheshire. Along with Eddisbury and Oakmere, Kelsborrow forms a small cluster of Iron Age hill forts within 3 mi of each other, near the Mouldsworth Gap, a break in the central ridge that runs north–south through Cheshire. The hill forts at Eddisbury and Oakmere lie to the north-east and east respectively. Kelsborrow Castle is located at, 400 ft above sea level. The site overlooks the Cheshire Plain to the west, south-west, and south. There is high ground immediately to the east of Kelsborrow Castle, rising to a height of 500 ft.</p><br>
<h2>Layout</h2><br>
<p>As well as being a hill fort, Kelsborrow Castle is a type of promontory fort, as it exploits the natural steep slopes of the area to create a defensive site. The hill fort is similar in typology to the hill forts at Bradley, Oakmere, and Portfield in Cheshire, and Castercliff in Lancashire.</p><br>
<h2>Preservation and current state</h2><br>
<p>Geophysical surveys and small-scale archaeological excavations in 1973 and 1996 indicated that there may be structures such as storage pits buried within the hill fort. The site is part of wider agricultural land and suffers erosion from vehicles and livestock movement. Animal burrows and the spread of bracken also pose a threat to the site. Although the site is designated as "at low risk", a more recent survey has suggested changing it to "at high risk" because of activities such as ploughing at Kelsborrow Castle. Five of the hill forts in Cheshire have been assessed as being "at high risk" compared to 15% of North West England&#39;s Scheduled Monuments.</p><br>
<p>The Historic Anderson House Hotel is a hotel and event venue in Wabasha, Minnesota, United States. The hotel opened in 1856 and was Minnesotas oldest continuously operating bed and breakfast inn west of the Mississippi River. Most of the furniture dates back to 1856 as well. The building was expanded in 1887. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Hurd House–Anderson Hotel in 1978 for having local significance in the theme of commerce. It was nominated for being a prominent and long-operating business originating in the years of Wabashas rapid growth as a river and rail transportation hub. In 1982 it was also listed as a contributing property to the Wabasha Commercial Historic District.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The hotel was built by B.F. Hurd in 1856 and was known as the Hurd House until 1909. Hurd&#39;s son-in-law became owner of the hotel in 1885 and added a third story and a west wing. He also installed electricity and modern bathrooms. In 1909 the Anderson family purchased the business and renamed it the Anderson Hotel.</p><br>
<p>The hotel was known for the Dutch cooking in the restaurant; a 1948 Anderson family cookbook had 500 recipes. It was also famous for the cats which hotel guests could stay with for overnight companionship. A 1990 children&#39;s book, Blumpoe the Grumpoe Meets Arnold the Cat, told the story of a curmudgeon who traveled to Wabasha and was endeared to the black-and-white cat that slept in his room.</p><br>
<p>The hotel closed for business on March 19, 2009, as a result of the economic downturn. Owners Teresa and Mike Smith had been trying to sell the inn for three years, but were unsuccessful. They had been subsidizing the inn with their retirement savings but eventually had to declare bankruptcy.</p><br>
<p>In 2011 the hotel was purchased by the Yenters and was remodeled. The hotel reopened a few months later, replacing the restaurant with a museum and ending the tradition of cats in rooms.</p><br>
<p>The Jona is a river in the Swiss cantons of Zürich and St. Gallen.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Jona rises on the eastern slope of Bachtel hill near Gibswil and Fischenthal in the Zürcher Oberland. Passing an impressive waterfall, the river flows near the municipality of Wald through a little valley eastward and changes its direction to the south by a ravine, which a viaduct of the Tösstalbahn (S26) is crossing. The Jona turns to the west, dividing the municipalities Dürnten and Rüti, passing the village of Tann and Rüti in the so-called Tannertobel. Once again, it changes its direction, flowing to the south (and slightly meandering) through Rüti and the so-called Joner Wald (forest of Rapperswil-Jona), followed by the S-Bahn Zürich lines S5 and S15. The river underneaths here Oberland Autobahn (A53 highway), now reaching the canton of St. Gallen and Rapperswil-Jona, flowing nearly in straight direction through the village of Jona (SG). Finally, it forms a small river delta near Busskirch and flows at Stampf lido in the Obersee, the upper section of the Zürichsee.</p><br>
<h2>History and some facts</h2><br>
<p>The river&#39;s name was first mentioned in 834 AD, the former municipality Jona was named much later. It is assumed that the name originates as either Celtic Jauna (the cold one) – the Jona is still largely determined by forest area – or, as Indo-European yamam, meaning stream. Latest interpretations say that the Indo-European word jeu roughly means to move, followed by the Old High German name Jouna.</p><br>
<p>Its hydropower was used for a larger number of medieval watermills along the small river. As a renewable source, in the 19th century, the river was important for industrialization of the textile industry of the communities of Wald, Rüti, and Rapperswil-Jona.</p><br>
<p>The Jona measures 20 km in all, rising at 950 m (m.ü.M, i.e. above sea level) and flowing in Obersee at 406 m asl. The river belongs to the Limmat→Aar→Rhine system. Its drainage basin measures 65 km&sup2</p><br>

<p>The Berchtesgaden Alps  are a mountain range of the Northern Limestone Alps, named after the market town of Berchtesgaden located in the centre. The central part belongs to the Berchtesgadener Land district of southeastern Bavaria, Germany, while the adjacent area in the north, east and south is part of the Austrian state of Salzburg .</p><br>

<p>While the highest mountain of the Berchtesgaden Alps is the Hochkönig (2,941 m) located in the Austrian part, the best known peak is the Watzmann massif, the third-highest mountain of Germany at 2,713 m. The range also comprises the Obersalzberg slope east of Berchtesgaden, known for the former Berghof residence of Adolf Hitler. The picturesque heart is formed by the glacial Königssee lake with the famous St. Bartholomew&#39;s pilgrimage church and the smaller Obersee, both part of the Berchtesgaden National Park established in 1978. The range also comprises glaciers like the Blaueis as well as the Steinernes Meer high karst plateau.</p><br>

<p>Cnoc Coinnich is a Corbett situated on the Ardgoil Peninsula in the Argyll & Bute council region and forms part of the Arrochar Alps. A Corbett is a Scottish mountain at least 2500ft but under 3000ft  in height with a drop of at least 500ft on all sides.</p><br>
<p>Cnoc Coinnich missed out on Corbett status by one metre until July 2016 when it was resurveyed at the instigation of the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC). The new height is 763.5m, changing its classification from one of the highest Grahams (second only in alphabetic order to Beinn Talaidh) to Corbett. The height was ratified by the Ordnance Survey and will be shown as 764m on its maps.</p><br>
<p>The hill is easily ascended from either Lochgoilhead, or from Artgartan on the A83 and is not far off the course of the Cowal Way long distance footpath. It is often climbed together with The Brack another Corbett which lies at the other side of the Coilessan bealach (col).</p><br>
<p>Cnoc Coinnich is topped by a small cairn at grid reference NN233007.</p><br>
<p>Honeymoon Creek Snow-Survey Cabin, also known as Seven Lakes Cabin, near Ashland, Oregon, was built in 1943. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.</p><br>
<p>It was deemed significant for its association with the Bureau of Agricultural Engineering/Soil Conservation Service&#39;s snow-survey program in southwestern Oregon. The cabin was not part of the first period of SCS snow-survey cabin construction in the 1930s, but it was built in the same design and by the same persons as built the first such cabin at South Lake.</p><br>
<p>The Honeymoon Creek Snow-Survey Cabin is located in the Butte Falls Ranger District, in Klamath County. The Whaleback Snow-Survey Cabin (1937), in the Prospect Ranger District in Douglas County, is also NRHP-listed.</p><br>
<p>The Antelope Creek Bridge is a wooden covered bridge, 58 ft long, spanning Little Butte Creek in Eagle Point in the USA state of Oregon. Constructed in 1922 by brothers Wes and Lyle Hartman, it originally spanned Antelope Creek, north of Medford. Antelope Creek is a tributary of Little Butte Creek, which it enters about 2 mi downstream of Eagle Point. According to Oregon&#39;s Covered Bridges, at its original location the bridge carried "the old Medford – Crater Lake Road" over Antelope Creek.</p><br>
<p>After a newer span replaced the bridge at its original location, it was no longer used by vehicles, and it deteriorated. Even so, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1979.</p><br>
<p>In 1987, to save the bridge, volunteers took it down and reassembled it over Little Butte Creek in Eagle Point. Since then it has served as a pedestrian bridge in Covered Bridge Park, adjacent to the veterans&#39; memorial.</p><br>
<p>In 1988, after its move to Eagle Point, the bridge was temporarily delisted because restoration work had created side windows that were not part of the original. In 2012, after correction of those alterations, the bridge was re-added to the NRHP.</p><br>
<p>Notable features of the bridge include its queenpost truss modified by addition of a kingpost, its ribbon openings under the eaves, and its cantilevered buttresses. The bridge has a cedar roof, semi-circular portals, and board siding without battens.</p><br>
<p>The Aztec Hotel is a historical landmark building in Monrovia, in the San Gabriel Valley, California. The hotel is an example of Mayan Revival architecture still in existence. It was designed by architect Robert Stacy-Judd, and built on USA Route 66 in 1924. The hotel was closed for renovations in 2012.</p><br>
<p>The hotel has a revivalist style that mixes an abstraction from Maya architecture sources along with art deco and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture.</p><br>
<p>The Aztec Hotel was designated a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The hotels owners began restoration to preserve as much of the original ornamentation as possible in 2000 under the National Park Services Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program.</p><br>
<p>The hotel was featured in the 2009 romantic comedy Spooner. Scenes were filmed in front of the hotel as well as many interior scenes showing the lobby, bar, hallways and inside one of the rooms.</p><br>
<p>The Oaks, also known as William N. Monroe House, is a Stick/Eastlake Queen Anne Style house that was built in 1885. It is located in the San Gabriel Valley, in Monrovia, California.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The house was built for William Newton Monroe, one of the founders and namesake of the city of Monrovia. Monroe lived in the house for only four years, after which it served a one-year stint as the Monrovia Ladies&#39; College of the University of Southern California. It again served as a private residence until the 1940s when it became a boarding house. It was converted back a single family house in 1977.</p><br>
<p>The Oaks is the second oldest house in Monrovia, notable as a local example of Victorian architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.</p><br>
<p>The Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, known as Christian Church at Mt. Pleasant or Mt. Pleasant Community Church, was built in 1856 near Stayton, Oregon. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 for its architecture.</p><br>
<p>It was built on land donated by Washington Crabtree. The church was subject of some conflict between two groups that used the church:In its early years, the church served alternately as a meeting place for the Cumberland Presbyterian and Christian groups. Benjamin Franklin Irvine belonged to the former sect and Crabtree to the latter. The church&#39;s denomination depended upon which of the men secured the minister. Services also were held in the buiLding whenever a circuit rider or evangelist traveled through the neighborhood. At one time a division between the "sprinkling" and "total immersion" groups became so heated that Crabtree, on whose land the building stood, is reported to have kept the church filled with hay for two years. A reconciliation was finally reached and the church reopened.</p><br>
<p>The Roman Town House in Dorchester is a Roman ruin within Colliton Park, Dorchester, Dorset. Dorset County Council acquired Colliton Park in 1933 as the site for the construction of County Hall. The Town House was discovered in 1937/38 during an archaeological investigation carried out by the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society prior to the construction of the new building. Plans for County Hall were modified so that the Town House could be retained on site.</p><br>
<p>The Town House is a scheduled ancient monument and a Grade I listed building. It is bounded on the north and west sides by North Walk and West Walk which are also scheduled monuments having the remains of the Roman ramparts of the town just below surface level.</p><br>
<p>The Town House has two principal ranges of rooms. The South Range comprising rooms 1–7 survives in the plan form of flint and stone walls on the grass covered site. The West Range comprising rooms 8–18 was mosaic floored. This range was re-excavated and provided with a steel and glass cover building with a stone tiled roof all perched on the original foundations between 1996 and 1999.</p><br>
<p>Igloolik Island is a small island in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada. It is located in the Foxe Basin, very close to the Melville Peninsula , and it is often thought to be a part of the peninsula. It forms part of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago.</p><br>
<p>The word Igloolik (Inuktitut: "there is an igloo here") comes from iglu (meaning: "house"/"building") and refers to the sod houses (qarmaq) that were originally in the area. Inuit and their ancestors have inhabited the island since 2000 BC. The archaeological sites on the island, which show a sequence up to 1000 AD, were designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1978.</p><br>
<p>There is only one community on the island, also named Igloolik.</p><br>
<h2>Qikiqtaarjuk</h2><br>
<p>On the north of Igloolik Island at 69&deg;24&prime;37&Prime;N latitude, 081&deg;30&prime;06&Prime;W longitude is a peninsula called Qikiqtaarjuk (Inuktitut syllabics: ᕿᑭᖅᑖᕐᔪᒃ, English: little island). About 400 – 500 years ago Qikiqtaarjuk was a separate island but due to isostatic rebound it became part of the main island. Qikiqtaarjuk is associated with several Inuit legends and stories and was the place from where Atanarjuat starts his run.</p><br>
<p>The Highway 78 Bridge at the Red River is an eight-span through truss bridge</p><br>
<p>over the Red River between Oklahoma and Texas on Oklahoma State Highway 78/Texas State Highway 78. It was built as a federal relief project during the Great Depression as part of President Franklin Roosevelts New Deal. Today the bridge and the area retain the look and feel of the time of its construction. As part of Highway 78 the bridges average daily traffic (as of 2006) was 1,700 cars per day.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The State Highway 78 Bridge at the Red River replaced a suspension bridge that collapsed on January 15, 1934. The former bridge had been opened as a toll bridge in July 1927. It was purchased by Oklahoma and Texas for use as a free bridge. It collapsed in a storm after the swinging bridge&#39;s wire cables became twisted and snapped.</p><br>
<p>As a Federal Relief Project funded by the National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933 construction began on February 16, 1937. It was completed in 1938.</p><br>
<p>The bridge marks the location of Sowell&#39;s Bluff.</p><br>

<p>The Illinois Steel Bridge Company of Jacksonville, Illinois was subcontracted to fabricate the trusses.</p><br>

<p>Names Hill is a bluff located on the bank of the Green River in the USA state of Wyoming, where travelers on the Oregon and California trails carved their names into the rock. It is one of three notable "recording areas" along the emigrant trails in Wyoming along with Register Cliff and Independence Rock. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 1969.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Names Hill was located near a heavily used crossing of the Green River. The earliest human recordings at the site are Native American pictographs. European American names began appearing as early as 1822 as mountain men crossed the river on their way to the beaver streams of the Western Rocky Mountains. In 1844, Caleb Greenwood and Isaac Hitchcock lead the first wagon train over what would later be called the Sublette-Greenwood Cutoff, along the way crossing the Green River at Names Hill. The wagon trains would rest at the Green River following a 40 mi waterless trek across the prairie, providing an opportunity for travelers to add their names to the hill.</p><br>
<p>Among the more famous names inscribed on the rock is famed mountain man Jim Bridger. Some have disputed the authenticity of the signature as Bridger was thought to have been illiterate.</p><br>
<p>The Edward F. Sharp Residential Ensemble, also known as the Sharp Family Residential Ensemble, is a set of three adjacent historic houses in The Dalles, Oregon, United States. Edward Sharp  was the county surveyor and roadmaster whose work underlies much of the development in The Dalles and Wasco County. As the official surveyor for the Eastern Oregon Land Company, he also conducted important early surveys across large stretches of Oregon and Idaho. He built the houses at 400 and 404 E. 4th Street for himself and his family , and the house at 504 Federal Street for employees . Because the houses remained under common ownership in the Sharp family for many years, they have retained an exceptional level of preservation. The houses on 4th Street are also exceptional local examples of the Queen Anne  and Craftsman  styles.</p><br>
<p>The ensemble was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.</p><br>
<p>The German River is the principal tributary of the North Fork of the Shenandoah River, flowing for 14.7 mi in the U.S. state of Virginia. The river originates in northern Rockingham County, just east of the West Virginia border, in the George Washington National Forest, near the crest of Shenandoah Mountain in the Allegheny Mountains.</p><br>
<h2>Course</h2><br>
<p>The German River rises from a mountain spring in the Cow Run area of Rockingham County, 10 mi southwest of the town of Bergton. From an elevation of 3,400 ft above sea level, it descends rapidly to the northeast between Fulk Mountain and Black Lick Mountain. The valley begins to widen and have some cultivation below 2,200 ft above sea level. Tributaries of the German River (ordered from upstream to downstream) are Camp Rader Run, Beech Lick Run, Sumac Run, Paint Lick Run, the Cold Spring River, Persimmon Run, and Siever Run. Near Bergton, the German River joins Crab Run to form the North Fork of the Shenandoah River.</p><br>

<p>John Redmond Reservoir is a reservoir on the Neosho River in eastern Kansas. Built and managed by the USA Army Corps of Engineers, it is used for flood control, recreation, water supply, and wildlife management. It borders the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge to the northwest.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Neosho River valley flooded more than 50 times in the 30 years leading up to 1950 when the USA Congress authorized the flood control project that later became John Redmond Dam and Reservoir. It was authorized and awaiting construction during the Great Flood of 1951 which inundated downtown Burlington and Strawn where some locations had floodwater 30 ft deep.</p><br>
<p>Originally, Congress authorized the project under the Flood Control Act of 1950 as Strawn Dam in reference to Strawn, the town located where the reservoir is today. Strawn was relocated 6 mi to the east on higher ground and renamed New Strawn at the time the dam was constructed. In 1958, Congress renamed the project John Redmond Dam and Reservoir in honor of the late John Redmond, the publisher of the Burlington Daily Republican who had been a long-time advocate for flood control and water conservation along the Neosho River. Redmond had died in 1953.</p><br>
<p>The entire design and construction of the project was conducted by the Tulsa District of the USA Army Corps of Engineers at a total cost of $29,264,000. The dam began to undergo construction on June 18, 1959 and went into service on November 17, 1964, several weeks before final completion, in order to protect the Neosho River valley from the expected winter and spring floods.</p><br>
<p>During the Great Flood of 1993, floodwaters reached up to the top of the dam&#39;s release gates. The reservoir reached capacity in July 1993, necessitating the first release of the spillway.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>John Redmond Reservoir is located at 38&deg;13&prime;30&Prime;N latitude, 95&deg;46&prime;36&Prime;W longitude (38.2250209, -95.7766537) at an elevation of 1,041 ft. The entirety of the reservoir lies within Coffey County.</p><br>
<p>The reservoir is impounded at its southeastern end by John Redmond Dam. The Neosho River is both the reservoir&#39;s primary inflow from the northwest and outflow to the southeast. Smaller tributaries include Hickory Creek and Kennedy Creek from the north as well as Buffalo Creek and Otter Creek from the west.</p><br>
<p>USA Route 75 runs generally north-south east of the reservoir. 12th Road, a paved county road, runs east-west south of the reservoir.</p><br>
<p>There are several settlements on or near the reservoir. The largest, Burlington, lies roughly 2 mi southeast of the dam on the Neosho River. New Strawn is located immediately east of the reservoir at the northeast end of the dam. Ottumwa, which is unincorporated, sits on the reservoir&#39;s north shore.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrography</h2><br>
<p>The surface area, surface elevation, and water volume of the reservoir fluctuate based on inflow and local climatic conditions. In terms of capacity, the Corps of Engineers vertically divides the reservoir into a set of pools based on volume and water level, and the reservoir is considered full when filled to the capacity of its conservation pool. When filled to maximum capacity, it has a surface elevation of 1,073 ft and a volume of 755,330 acre-ft.</p><br>
<p>The streambed underlying the reservoir has an elevation of 995 ft.</p><br>
<h2>Infrastructure</h2><br>
<p>John Redmond Dam is an earth-fill embankment dam that stands 86.5 ft above the streambed and 21,790 ft long. At its crest, the dam has an elevation of 1,081.5 ft. A 664 ft section of the dam at its northeast end is a concrete spillway that empties into the Neosho River channel. The spillway is an ogee weir controlled by 14 40 ft by 35 ft tainter gates. When the reservoir is filled to maximum capacity, the spillway has a discharge capacity of 578,000 cuft/s. Additional outlet works include two 24 in low-flow pipes with a capacity of 130 cuft/s at the spillway crest. The maximum capacity of the river channel below the dam is 15,000 cuft/s.</p><br>
<h2>Management</h2><br>
<p>The Tulsa District of the USA Army Corps of Engineers manages John Redmond Dam and Reservoir for the purposes of flood control, recreation, water quality control, and water supply. The Corps oversees recreational activities both on the reservoir surface and in the parks around it.</p><br>
<p>The USA Fish and Wildlife Service manages 18,463 acres of land along the river northwest of the reservoir as the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge. In addition, the Corps of Engineers has licensed the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWP) to manage 1,637 acres on the reservoir&#39;s southwest shore as the Otter Creek Wildlife Area. The Wildlife Area includes approximately 200 acres of riparian land, 465 acres of cropland, and 970 acres of native grassland.</p><br>
<p>John Redmond Reservoir serves as a reserve water supply for the Wolf Creek Generating Station located 5 mi east. During construction of the facility, a second reservoir, Coffey County Lake, was created to serve as a water source so a cooling tower would not be required. The water level of the Lake is kept above a mandatory level by pumping water from John Redmond when needed.</p><br>
<h2>Parks and recreation</h2><br>
<p>The Corps of Engineers manages three parks at the reservoir: Dam Site Park, Riverside East Park, and Riverside West Park. Dam Site Park is located at the northeast end of the dam on the reservoir&#39;s eastern shore. Riverside East Park and Riverside West Park lie immediately below the dam on both sides of the Neosho River. Both Dam Site and Riverside West host boat ramps. Dam Site and Riverside East each include hiking trails. All three parks include camping and picnic facilities.</p><br>
<p>John Redmond Reservoir is open for sport-fishing. Hunting is allowed, with restrictions, on the public land around the reservoir including in the Flint Hills Refuge.</p><br>
<h2>Wildlife</h2><br>
<p>Fish species resident in the reservoir include channel and flathead catfish, crappie, walleye, and white bass. One invasive species, the zebra mussel, is also present. Game animals living on land around the reservoir include bobwhite quail, cottontail rabbits, mourning doves, prairie chickens, squirrels, turkeys, and whitetail deer.</p><br>
<p>Lake Warden is a salt lake in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It and its associated wetlands are protected in a nature reserve; they were recognised as being of international importance under the Ramsar Convention through designation of the Lake Warden System on 7 June 1990 as Ramsar Site 485.</p><br>
<p>The lake is also a DIWA-listed wetland.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The lake is about 5 km north of Esperance, between the two main access roads to the town, the South Coast and Coolgardie-Esperance Highways. It lies in the Esperance Plains IBRA bioregion, and in the Esperance Lakes Nature Reserve.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The lake has an average depth of 2 m, which has been slowly increasing since recording first began in 1979. The average depth of the lake is now more than 1 m higher than it was, mostly as a result of deforestation that has led to a greater amount of run-off. As well as Lake Warden itself, the 2,000 hectare Ramsar site includes the associated system of saline lakes and marsh areas behind beach-front dunes. The Lake Warden system is hydrologically complex with seven main lakes and over 90 smaller lakes creating diverse wetland habitats. As well as Warden, significant lakes in the system include Windabout, Woody, Station, Mullet and Wheatfield Lakes.</p><br>
<p>The catchment for the lake covers an area of 212,000 hectare of which 80% is agricultural land, of which 95% has been cleared.</p><br>
<h3>Flora and fauna</h3><br>
<p>Saltwater paperbark trees grow the water’s edge in all the wetlands. sedges and rushes also grow around the shoreline in the tree zone. Other trees include stout paperbark and red-eyed wattle blending into low woodland of showy banksia or mallee eucalypts. At the eastern end of the wetland system the trees are replaced by samphire, especially Tecticornia and Sarcocornia species. Higher parts of the marsh are dominated by the grass Stipa luncifolia while austral seabite occurs in areas fed by springs.</p><br>
<p>The site regularly supports up to 20-30,000 waterbirds. Numerically significant species include the Australian shelduck, black swan, chestnut teal, grey teal, freckled duck, musk duck, pink-eared duck, hardhead, banded stilt, hoary-headed grebe, Australian pelican and yellow-billed spoonbill. The system also supports an important population of the hooded plover. The global population of this threatened Australian endemic species is less than 10,500 individual birds, while the Western Australian population numbers less than 6000. Over 240 hooded plovers have been recorded on one occasion at Lake Warden, constituting 2.4% of the global population and 4% of the Western Australian population. The Recherche Cape Barren goose, listed as vulnerable under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, was recorded at Lake Warden Nature Reserve in surveys undertaken in 1981-85.</p><br>
<p>The lake has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area (IBA) because it has supported over 1% of the world populations of hooded plovers, musk ducks, and sometimes banded stilts.</p><br>

<p>The Apuan Alps  are a mountain range in northern Tuscany, Italy. They are included between the valleys of the Serchio and Magra rivers, and, to north-west, the Garfagnana and Lunigiana, with a total length of approximately 55 km. The name derives from the Apuani Ligures tribe who lived here in ancient times.</p><br>
<h2>Geology and geography</h2><br>
<p>The chain formed out of sea sediments in the middle Triassic period, somewhat earlier than the rest of the Apennines, and on a rather different geological structure. Over time, these sediments hardened into limestone, dolomite, sandstone, and shale. Harsh pressure approximately 25 million years ago transformed the limestone in many places into the Carrara marble (named for the nearby city of Carrara) for which the range is renowned. Erosion carved much of the remaining sedimentary rocks into a jagged karst topography.</p><br>
<p>The highest peak is the Monte Pisanino, at 1,946 m.</p><br>

<p>Pink Lake is a salt lake in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It lies about 3 km west of Esperance and is bounded to the east by the South Coast Highway.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Pink Lake, also known as Spencer Lake, has not been pink for over ten years. The distinctive colour of the water changes as a result of green alga Dunaliella salina, halobacterium Halobacteria cutirubrum, and/or high concentration of brine prawn. Once the lake water reaches a salinity level greater than that of sea water, the temperature is high enough and adequate light conditions are provided, the alga begins to accumulate the red pigment beta carotene. The pink halobacterium grow in the salt crust at the bottom of the lake.</p><br>
<h2>Birds</h2><br>
<p>The lake has been identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area because it usually supports significant numbers of hooded plovers and sometimes over 1% of the world population of banded stilts. It has had many migrant and native birds. Between 1997 and 2006, populations of between 12 and 12,000 of the banded stilt were recorded. There was a population of between 5 and 68 of the hooded plovers from 1995 to 2005.</p><br>
<h2>Salt production</h2><br>
<p>Prior to salt production the lake&#39;s environment was investigated in the 1980s. Table salt is produced in solar ponds at the eastern end of the lake. The company WA Salt Supply produce water softening salt, coarse salt and sheepskin salt at the Esperance site. The salt is kiln dried, crushed and bagged at the site before being distributed.</p><br>
<p>The 141-hectare Ansupa Lake  is a horseshoe shaped fresh water lake on the left bank of the Mahanadi river, opposite Banki in Cuttack district, Odisha, India. Ansupa Lake in Banki is 40 km from the city of Cuttack, which also acts as a shelter for the migratory birds in the wintry weather season. It is a fresh water lake situated amidst the Saranda Hills and enclosed by bamboo tree greenery and mango trees. To visitor&#39;s delight, there is boating and fishing facilities in the Ansupa Lake.</p><br>
<p>This small but extremely picturesque Ansupa lake holds a prominent position in the tourist map of Odisha for its beauty, proximity This eye-catching tourist attraction is about 50 km from Bhubaneshwar. The Govt. of Odisha has taken a giant step to make this lake as one of the Odisha&#39;s most popular tourist place. A state highway is now passing by this lake, that connects Athgarh and Banki. Some bamboo cottages are made on the top of Saranda hill for tourist refreshments.</p><br>
<p>It is one of the major fresh-water lakes of India.</p><br>
<p>The National Savings and Trust Company is a historic bank building located at the corner of New York Avenue and 15th Street, NW in Downtown Washington, D.C. It has also been known as the National Safe Deposit Company and the National Safe Deposit Savings and Trust Company.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>It was designed by architect James H. Windrim and built in 1888. The Queen Anne Style building is constructed in red brick, and elaborately detailed with copper and terra cotta.</p><br>
<p>The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 16, 1972, and is a contributing property to the Fifteenth Street Financial Historic District.</p><br>
<p>It is currently occupied by a branch of SunTrust Banks, based in Atlanta, Georgia. SunTrust took ownership of the structure when it acquired Crestar Bank, which had previously taken control of the National Savings and Trust Company.</p><br>
<p>John T. Hash House, also known as Monahan House, is a house built in Dayton, Oregon in c. 1912. The property, which also includes a barn as another contributing building, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.</p><br>
<p>The house was deemed significant as "one of the few Craftsman style buildings found in Dayton." As of 1984 the house was in good condition and had undergone only minor alterations from its original form.</p><br>
<p>The shiplap-sided house has two stories in a square front section, and has a one-story addition at the rear. Its plan is 28 ft by 62 ft. The architectural features which make it classifiable as "Craftsman" are not detailed in the available Dayton Historic Resource Survey document about the house, but it is noted that first-floor windows have crown moldings, that the front door has ornamental woodwork and an oval glass-light, and that the porch is supported by three classical, turned columns.</p><br>
<p>Echo Summit  is a mountain pass in the western United States, located in eastern El Dorado County, California. At 7,382 ft above sea level, it is the highest point on USA Route 50 in California, which traverses it at postmile 66.48 between Twin Bridges and Meyers, south of Lake Tahoe.</p><br>
<p>The "Sierra Nevada Southern Route" (aka the "Pioneer Route") of the Lincoln Highway, the first road across the United States, was routed over Echo Summit in 1913. The "Sierra Nevada Northern Route" of the Lincoln Highway goes over Donner Pass.</p><br>
<h2>1968 USA Olympic Trials</h2><br>
<p>Echo Summit is notable for being the location of the high altitude USA Olympic Trials and Training Camp in the summer of 1968. The camp opened in July and the men&#39;s track and field trials were held September 6–16, a month before the high altitude 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. The picturesque location is on the cover of the July 1968 issue of Track and Field News.</p><br>
<p>The elevation of the track was 7,377 ft above sea level, 28 ft higher than the Olympic venue in Mexico.</p><br>
<p>Four world records were achieved during the trials on one of the first Tartan tracks, constructed in the middle of the forest solely for this event. The track was built southwest of the summit in the parking lot of a small ski area, and hundreds of Ponderosa pine trees remained in the infield, densest on the north end. The track installation was completed in early July and was designed to be easily dismantled and reinstalled; it was moved the following summer to nearby South Tahoe Middle School, where it survived until 2006. The location became a California Historical Landmark in 2014.</p><br>
<p>The ski area, known as Nebelhorn and later Echo Summit, closed in 1988. It is now Adventure Mountain, a snow play area for sledding and tubing.</p><br>
<p>The Muscatine Avenue Moffitt Cottage Historic District is a National Register of Historic Places district that includes five stone cottages in Iowa City epitomizing the eccentric vernacular architectural style of Howard Moffitt. Moffitt constructed more than 100 houses in Iowa City and Coralville, Iowa and a few in Citrus City, Texas. These small houses represent one of the regional 20th century vernacular architectural styles in the United States. Howard Moffitt was a prolific builder.</p><br>
<h2>Howard Moffitt</h2><br>
<p>Howard Francis Moffitt was a prolific builder, constructing between 100 and 200 homes in Iowa City and Coralville between 1924 and 1943. With no formal training in construction or architecture, Moffitt began building homes as a side business from his auto parts distributorship. Moffitt&#39;s house designs appear to have been concocted from magazine photos, consultation with friends, limitations of available building supplies, and whimsy. In 1943 Moffitt moved to Citrus City, Texas, and attempted to reproduce his success there, however only seven or eight houses were built in Texas. Moffitt’s Iowa City houses appear to be a response to increasing demand for affordable small houses, especially rental houses, in the growing university town.</p><br>
<h2>The Moffitt house style</h2><br>
<p>No two Moffitt houses are identical. Moffitt’s building style was so eclectic that there are many homes in Iowa City in which there is no sure way to determine if Moffitt built them; his building records do not survive. "These mystical dwellings look as if Germanic elves constructed houses for Irish pixies", is how one writer described them. In general Moffitt houses borrow heavily from the English Cottage and American Craftsman styles of architecture, although there are examples of Moffitt building in styles reminiscent of southwestern stucco adobe and Prairie School styles. Several of his houses have concave or hipped roof. While there is no single architectural aspect that includes all Moffitt houses, there are some common design and decoration schemes that are commonly seen in Moffitt houses. These include:</p><br>

<p>The Albany Monteith Historic District, also known as Monteith Historic District, in Albany, Oregon, United States, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places  in 1980. It includes the Alfred Dawson House, which is separately listed on the NRHP. The district was expanded in 2008.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Monteith District, located on the west side of downtown Albany, is named after Walter and Thomas Monteith, the founders of Albany. After arriving in Oregon from New York in 1847, the Monteith brothers completed the first frame house in Albany in 1849, which now serves as a museum and is said to be the most authentically restored Pioneer Era home in Oregon. Much of the earlier history centers around the Monteith House.</p><br>
<p>The Monteith district contains a number of churches. A former United Presbyterian Church, now known as "Whitespires", is located at the corner of Washington and Fifth. It was built in 1891 and is noted for its stained glass windows and Carpenter Gothic details. Its spire is the highest point in Albany.</p><br>
<p>In 1851, the Monteith family built and owned the Magnolia Flouring Mills along the Calapooia River. With the mill in operation, the first boat ever to travel the upper Willamette River, the Multnomah, arrived in Albany, thereby increasing Albany&#39;s shipping potential for the manufacturing and farming industries.</p><br>
<p>The Monteith Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 29, 1980. The time period of significance for all of Albany’s historic districts was expanded in 2000 from 1849 to 1915 to 1849 to 1945 to capture resources and architectural styles constructed between 1915 and 1945 that reflect the growth and development of Albany. The Monteith District was expanded in November 2008 to add 78 properties on the southwest corner of the original boundary to include a cohesive collection of early to mid-twentieth century residential buildings. Many distinct architectural styles grace the district. Included are Federal, Craftsman, Classical Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, French Second Empire, Stick, Eastlake, Colonial Revival, Rural Vernacular, Transitional Box, Bungalow, American Renaissance, Depression/World War II Cottages, and eclectic hybrids that combine elements of these styles.</p><br>
<h2>Notable structures</h2><br>
<p>The Monteith Historic District is home to many different buildings of interest, including the Monteith House located at 518 Second Avenue, which now used as a museum. It is owned by the City of Albany, and the non-profit Monteith Historic Society provides financial and volunteer resources for its maintenance, restoration and operation. Another notable structure is the Breckenridge House at 1122 Ferry Street SW.</p><br>
